Australian authorities have suspended the operation for a four-year-old child who has been disappeared in the remote area for nearly several weeks, after fresh attempts proved unsuccessful to locate any traces of the youngster.

Timeline of Occurrences

The child was last seen enjoying himself around his family property on a remote farmland near Yunta, about 300km from Adelaide, on late September.

His grandparent stepped away for about half an hour before returning, only to realize the youngster missing, initiating one of the most extensive land and air searches in South Australian records.

Latest Situation

Police - who do not suspect foul play - say they will carry on investigating, but that the situation has become a "recovery mission".

Earlier, officials for a short time wound down the search, only to restart it on Tuesday alongside 80 military staff.

"Official authorities said authorities were looking a more extensive area based on updated evaluations from medical and search specialists, rather than any new information."

Mission Difficulties

On recently, authorities announced that the latest operation had not found any evidence of the boy.

"The situation that the young boy is a little boy, the terrain is very difficult, unforgiving and affected by unpredictable weather conditions has made the mission demanding and more difficult for those participating," police said in a release.

About 470 sq km - an area roughly double the dimensions of Edinburgh - has now been scanned, and a specialized unit created lately is expected to continue investigating. Police have not ruled out additional missions of the property in the coming days.

Gus, who has been described as an explorative but reserved boy, was spotted wearing a dark headwear, pale gray long pants, footwear and a azure long-sleeved T-shirt showing a golden character character.

The incident has provoked significant concern across Australia, with images of the blond, curly-headed child featured throughout publications and conjecture spreading widely online.

It led authorities to appeal that individuals stop phoning them with their "theories", and request for them to access details from credible channels.

Relatives Statement

Officials earlier this week said the boy's relatives continue to be "resilient" despite the tragic conditions.

"You can imagine just how they are coping... without having answers as to specifically where the boy is and what's occurred to him. This would be traumatic for every family," Commissioner Stevens said.

Through a spokesperson, the relatives loved ones has previously said they are "devastated" by their son's vanishing.

"This constitutes a shock to our relatives and loved ones, and we are finding it difficult to comprehend what has happened," the spokesperson said.

"Gus's absence is felt in all of us, and we yearn for him more than words can convey."
